April Challenge - Day 10 - 16: Bad poster...

I've been a terrible blogger. Just terrible. It's been a jam packed week but that's no excuse for bad blogging. Rather than trying to make up each day as I have done before - I'll save everyone's time by putting it all into one blog posting.

Monday - cardio - 7k on the dreadmill, I mean treadmill.
Tuesday - weights (focusing on arms)
Wednesday - cardio - 6k with the Sporting Life team at Queen's Park.
Thursday - weights (focus on legs)
Friday - after having dinner with a client, it was to the gym to concentrate on core. I can't say this was the best idea this week
Saturday - I was pretty sick, so my focus was on exercises that wouldn't aggrevate my stomach...so it was just arms today.
Sunday - 8k run - felt good, but would have been better outside

This week, I'll be better at posting. I promise.

March Challenge - Day 10: Grandmama's gonna knock you out

An article in this week's MacLean's magazine, "Angry Grannies, Fists of Fury," talks about self-defense classes for the women of Nairobi's slums, in particular, the grandmothers. Years of HIV/AIDS deaths have made many sub-saharan African nations states with a large population of grandmothers having to care for their grandchildren, after their own children have died of the terrible disease. Now, more and more of these grandmothers are finding themselves victims of sexual assaults as young men find themselves desperate enough to attack women twice to three times their age. In fact, 10% of rape cases are now women over the age of 60 - a horrific stat that no woman in their golden years (well, any woman for that matter) should have to endure.

A charity training centre called Streams of Hope and Peace has started defence classes, teaching the basics of karate as well as "dirty tricks" like a swift kick to the groin or fingers in the eyes.

This is so horrific, I don't know where to start. I am saddened to see that this is a reality and that women that have already lived through so much pain and suffering, have to be vigilant about possibly being sexual assault victims themselves.

Going back to my blog a few days back in regards to International Women's Day, this is yet another point to add to that growing list of why we need to step up our fight to ensure equal treatment of the female gender. This charity, and what they are teaching these women of the slums, is helping to empower women and take back the control that these horrible men are trying to seize.

Let's hope the international community helps more charities such as this one and help give more women around the globe ways to defend themselves against attack.

February Challenge - Day 10: Pub Food

Two words. Pub food.
Pub food = trouble to my healthy eating streak.

Here's a haiku tribute to me cheating on my healthy eating tonight as the work crew went for drinks at a bar.

Nachos, Chicken Wings.
Deep fried food. Hard to say no.
Cheating? I think so.

Good news? I had only a few nachos and pieces of calamari. And only one beer...and one Caesar.

January Challenge - Day 10: Is SHE drunk?

We all say silly things when we're drunk. I have on many occasions said things that I wish I could take back. Damn you, alcohol. You are a good friend and a terrible enemy at the same time.

So it amazes me that there are people who say silly things when they are dead sober. You often wonder to yourself, "is dis fool drunk?" Sarah Palin is the fool in this case. Today, she posted a video to her blog to respond to the horrific shooting that took place in Arizona this weekend. Take a look - especially at 2:18 where she addresses the controversy of her previous targeting swing districts in the last congressional elections with crosshairs on the congressmen and women who were at risk of losing their seats (including Democrat Gaby Giffords, who was shot this weekend).

As my homegirl GloZell says, "guurrrlll, how drunk IS you?" Look, you made a mistake. Own up to it - it's a time where people are going to look for someone to blame, but if you own up to the fact that you made a tasteless attempt at partisan politics, people are also in the mood to forgive. Her "my hands are clean" approach is pitiful, and shows again that she is a terrible candidate to be the leader of the most powerful nation in the world. Hopefully, there's one good thing that comes out of the shooting and that it destroys any chance this moron has of reaching the White House.

I'm irritated. It might be a combination of watching this moron's video and the fact that I really want a nice cold beer. Sigh, Day 10. 18 days left to go!
